Siebinger Pumpkin Seed Oil

“For every liter of Siebinger Pumpkin Seed Oil, five and a half pounds of dried pumpkin seeds are used!”

In the Austrian Autumn, many Styrian fields in the region of Steiermark are covered with round and colorful pumpkins. There the seeds of the yellow-green, soft peeled pumpkin have attracted the attention of local Siebing farmers for hundreds of years.
In the village of Siebing, Austria seeds are harvested traditionally by hand from the fully ripe flesh of the pumpkin. For every liter of Siebinger Pumpkin Seed Oil, five and a half pounds of dried pumpkin seeds are used! The seeds are dried for at least 14 days and during this time of post-ripening, the oil is concentrated in the seeds. Then the seeds are transferred to the oil-press where they are grinded between two stones. The newly formed mashed substance has to be removed delicately with a spatula from the mill-stones. The finer this first grinding process is done, the better the later oil gain.

The magnificent aroma of Siebinger Pumpkin Seed Oil comes about due to the intensity of the subsequent roasting process. Once adequately roasted, the mashed substance is then pressed with about 300 bars of pressure. Only then does our trademark dark-green oil begin to flow.
